Post 295 to host 2010 State Tournament

We are proud to be selected once again to host the 2010 American Legion Baseball Maryland State Tournament. American Legion Post 295, Vietnam Veterans Memorial, successfully hosted Maryland’s 2003 State Tournament at Shirley Povich Field and the 2009 Tournament at Shipley Field. The tournament will begin on Thursday, July 29th and conclude no later than Monday Aug 1st.

We believe that playing on The University of Maryland’s Shipley Field is better for the players. Playing on an ACC field with a turf infield heightens their game. Post 295 will be providing lodging with breakfast for 6 of the 8 teams at the Quality Inn in College Park. Two local teams will not be housed.

Shipley Field has been the home of the Maryland baseball team since 1965. It is located right in the heart of the Maryland campus, in between Byrd Stadium and the Artificial Turf Facility. The facility has a seating capacity of 2,500. Its playing surface is Bermuda Grass and the dimensions are 320 down the left field line, 380 to center.

We look forward to your endorsement of our proposal and a successful 2010 American Legion Baseball Season.
